News trading guide

Can you trade CPI, NFP and FOMC on prop firms?

Trading major news can look allowed on the platform and still become a payout problem later. Use this table before buying a challenge or trading funded accounts around red-folder events.

Short answer: news rules are plan-specific. Do not treat evaluation, simulated funded, PA, live and legacy accounts as the same product.

High impact

Inflation spike risk

Firm Market Status Rule summary CPI / NFP / FOMC Safest action
Alpha Capital Group logo Alpha Capital Group
Forex/CFD Restricted Golden Bazaar data flags restricted high-impact news behavior rather than a fully open news policy. Do not open new trades right around red-folder events unless the active rules allow it. Use a conservative buffer before and after CPI, NFP and FOMC. Verify the exact window inside the dashboard or rules page.
FTMO logo FTMO
Forex/CFD Restricted News trading depends on account type and current FTMO restrictions. Treat funded-stage high-impact news as restricted unless the current account rules say otherwise. CPI, NFP and FOMC can create rule and slippage risk even if the platform accepts the order. Check the economic-calendar restriction for the exact account before opening or closing around major releases.
FundedNext logo FundedNext
Multi-asset Restricted FundedNext prohibits abusive and exploitative strategies. Low-liquidity guarantees, quick-strike style behavior, and excessive margin usage are risk flags. News trading status should be checked by CFD/Futures product and current rule page. Do not assume one rule applies to Stellar and Futures. Avoid oversized event trades, cross-account hedging, and fast spike exploitation. Keep margin usage conservative.
FundingPips logo FundingPips
Forex/CFD Restricted Public/trader material often says news can vary by model, but the Responsible Trading Policy can treat purposely trading news as abusive. Treat CPI, NFP and FOMC as high-risk unless the active model/stage clearly allows the trade style. Do not build a strategy around news spikes. Keep records showing the trade was not toxic-flow or overleveraged event abuse.
MyFundedFutures logo MyFundedFutures
Futures Restricted Plan and stage specific. Rapid/Flex evaluations show T1 news as allowed, but Rapid Sim Funded says T1 news is not allowed. Core and Pro also differ. Do not assume CPI, NFP, or FOMC is allowed after passing. Check the active plan and stage before trading red-folder news. Avoid opening trades around T1 news in Sim Funded unless the exact plan page says it is allowed.
The5ers logo The5ers
Multi-asset Restricted Several programs allow news trading, but bracketing/news-straddle style behavior is restricted. News may be tradable on High Stakes, Bootcamp and Hyper Growth, but not with both-side pending order tricks or other excluded behavior. Trade only if the program page allows news and avoid bracket orders, straddles, or obvious event exploitation.
Apex Trader Funding logo Apex Trader Funding
Futures Unclear Apex has new products and legacy accounts with separate rulebooks. The summarized May 2026 research did not produce one simple news-trading permission rule. Treat high-impact news as verify-first, especially because account type and legacy/new status matter. Check the active Apex FAQ before trading major releases and avoid strategies that look like simulation exploitation.
E8 Markets logo E8 Markets
Multi-asset Unclear E8 One and E8 Signature use different drawdown and breach behavior. The reviewed rules do not support a single news-trading answer. Check the product family before trading red-folder events. Daily hard breach vs soft pause behavior changes the risk. Avoid news trades that can hit Daily Drawdown, Daily Pause or EOD Dynamic Drawdown in one move.
Fintokei logo Fintokei
Forex/CFD Unclear The reviewed Fintokei rules focus on daily loss, max loss, max open-trade risk, prohibited practices and country restrictions. A universal CPI/NFP/FOMC rule was not captured. Do not assume news trading is safe. Check the current program FAQ and avoid risk that breaks the 3% open-trade rule. Keep event risk small, close to plan, and documented. Avoid copy/EA behavior that can create a separate compliance problem.
Instant Funding logo Instant Funding
Forex/CFD Unclear The researched public rules emphasize smart drawdown, risk-per-instrument, max lots and prohibited practices, but do not give one simple universal news rule. News windows should be treated as unclear until the active product page and agreement confirm whether event trading is allowed. Avoid large one-sided event bets and keep risk-per-instrument inside the product limit.

Quick pre-news checklist

  • Check the exact active product name. Evaluation and funded-stage rules can differ inside the same firm.
  • Check timezone. Server time, ET, UTC and your local time can create expensive mistakes.
  • Check open trades, pending orders and copier behavior before the release.
  • If you plan to request payout, save screenshots, trade rationale and rule evidence.
